The Port of Laredo is currently ranked as the Number One inland port on the U.S. - Mexico border and the Number Six largest Customs District in the United States managing over 174 billion dollars of international trade with 60 countries from around the world and with 700 of the Fortune 1000 companies. Only the Ports of Los Angeles-Long Beach, New York-New Jersey, Houston-Galveston, Detroit, and New Orleans in the U.S. rank ahead of the Port of Laredo. However, the newly developed international trade corridor bridging the Port of Lazaro Cardenas to the Port of Laredo and the additional seven lane expansion at the World Trade Bridge will increase our port capacity, foster "added value" economic opportunities and secure our port ranking as one of the top Customs District in the United States.
Furthermore, this small Spanish Villa, founded 255 years ago on the banks of the Rio Grande, is quickly becoming the most modern city in South Texas. Ranked as one of the top 25 fastest growing cities and ranked in the top ten places to invest in the United States, Laredo continues to thrive and modernize in the process at a tremendous pace.
Founded in 1966, the Laredo Development Foundation is a private, non-profit, accredited economic development and industrial development organization in our community. Governed by a Board comprised of both private and public sector representatives, the Laredo Development Foundation has taken the lead role in the effort to foster the economic and industrial growth and development of our community.
